ABB has contracted to provide a fully integrated electrical power, propulsion, and automation system for two hybrid-electric cable repair vessels for Orange Marine, to be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The vessels will support submarine cable maintenance across the Atlantic, Indian Oceans, and Mediterranean, Black, and Red Seas.

Key components include ABB's Azipod® DO propulsion units, the ABB Ability™ 800xA Integrated Automation System, and a comprehensive energy storage system, all designed to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. The demand for cable repair vessels is projected to rise significantly as global subsea telecommunications infrastructure expands, with a 48% increase in deployed subsea cables expected by 2040.
