ACCIONA Energía Begins 1 GWh Battery Storage Construction at Malgarida Solar Plant in Chile
ACCIONA Energía has commenced construction of a 1 GWh battery storage system at the Malgarida solar plant in Chile's Atacama Desert, set to be among Latin America's largest when completed in early 2027. The facility will enable storage of solar energy for nighttime use, enhancing grid reliability and supporting Chile's renewable energy integration.

ACCIONA Energía has started building a 1 GWh battery energy storage system at its Malgarida solar PV plant in Chile, with commissioning expected in early 2027. The installation, featuring a 200 MW output, will store energy generated during peak sunlight hours for use during nighttime, improving grid reliability and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
This project is part of a broader strategy to enhance solar energy integration in Chile’s power mix. Additionally, ACCIONA aims to expand its storage capabilities with three other projects totaling around 1.5 GWh, reinforcing Chile's position as a leader in renewable energy.
