Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has announced bids from Acwa and GS Inima for the Hidd Independent Water Production (IWP) project following an international tender. The project involves a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant to be developed on a Build-Own-Operate model.

It will have a Guaranteed Net Contracted Water Capacity of 11,364 cubic meters per hour, addressing Bahrain's increasing demand for potable water across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Eligible prequalified companies had to meet specific criteria outlined in the Request for Proposals. This initiative reflects Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its desalination capacity through private sector participation.
