ACWA Power and Vitol's LNG Import Facility and Power Station in South Africa
A new LNG import facility and a combined-cycle gas-fired power station project is underway in South Africa, led by ACWA Power and Vivo Energy. This initiative is significant for enhancing energy supply and infrastructure in the region.

The construction project plans to establish a combined-cycle gas-fired power station with a capacity of up to 1,800 MW, accompanied by a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility. The project, which received Strategic Integrated Project status from the South African government in September 2025, involves ACWA Power and Vivo Energy, which merged with Engen in 2024.
The regasified LNG will be distributed via the Lilly gas pipeline connecting Secunda to Durban, as well as through LNG trucking for industrial and mining operations and LNG bunkering for shipping. This project may bolster energy security in South Africa and facilitate the transition to cleaner energy sources.
