Adani Commissions 1,000 MW HVDC Transmission Link for Mumbai
Adani Electricity Mumbai Infrastructure Limited (AEMIL) has launched a 1,000 MW HVDC link to enhance power reliability in Mumbai. This project facilitates greater integration of renewable energy and reduces outage risks across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

On April 14, 2026, Adani Electricity Mumbai Infrastructure Limited (AEMIL) commissioned a 1,000 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link between Kudus and Aarey. The infrastructure includes a 30-km overhead line and a 50-km underground corridor designed for urban settings.
This project aims to increase the flow of renewable energy into Mumbai, reduce dependence on local generation, and improve grid resilience. It also includes the world's first compact HVDC substation. Conceived after the October 2020 blackout, this link enhances connectivity with the national grid, allowing for more efficient power management. The HVDC system offers operational benefits such as dynamic voltage support and reduced transmission losses, supporting Mumbai's energy security and reliability.
