Adani Electricity Commissions 1,000 MW HVDC Link for Mumbai's Power Supply
Adani Electricity Mumbai Infrastructure Ltd has launched a 1,000 MW HVDC transmission link to enhance Mumbai's power infrastructure. This project, driven by the need to improve energy resilience post-2020 blackout, allows for greater renewable energy integration and reduces reliance on local generation.

Adani Electricity Mumbai Infrastructure Ltd (AEMIL), a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), has commissioned a 1,000 MW HVDC transmission link between Kudus and Aarey. The project features a 30-km overhead line and a 50-km underground corridor designed to function in a dense urban setting, along with the world's first compact HVDC substation.
This upgrade enhances the capacity to import electricity, especially renewable sources, thereby improving grid reliability and reducing the risk of outages. Utilizing Voltage Source Converter (VSC)-based technology, it offers operational advantages like dynamic voltage support and black-start capability. This link is poised to alleviate pressure on local generation in the energy-intensive Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
