ADB Approves $180 Million Loan for Urban Infrastructure in Cambodia
The ADB has sanctioned a $180 million loan to enhance urban infrastructure in Bavet, Kampot, and Poipet, benefiting over 140,000 residents. This initiative aims to improve sanitation, waste management, and flood prevention in response to rising urban populations and inadequate services.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $180 million loan to improve urban infrastructure in Bavet, Kampot, and Poipet, supporting over 140,000 residents. The Livable Cities Investment Project focuses on enhancing wastewater and solid waste management, upgrading stormwater and drainage systems, and increasing municipal service delivery capacity.
Cambodia's urban population reached six million in 2019, highlighting the urgent need for improved services. The project includes rehabilitating canals and constructing a wastewater treatment plant, with a $2 million technical assistance grant from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction.
Municipal administrations will receive a road map for sustainable revenue generation and efficient service delivery. As urban migration continues, the success of this project is critical for improving living conditions and attracting private investment.
