ADB President Masato Kanda met Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele in Honiara to enhance ADB's support for economic development and public financial management reforms. The ADB's portfolio in the region is approximately $350 million, focusing on infrastructure projects like the Tina River Hydropower Project, which aims to provide around 70% of Honiara's electricity needs.

Kanda opened a full resident mission in the Solomon Islands, reflecting a commitment to increasing ADB's presence. The hydropower project is supported by an $18 million loan and a $12 million grant from ADB. Kanda also visited the University of the South Pacific's new Honiara campus, financed by ADB.
