ADB to Provide $1.2 Billion Loan to India for Clean Energy and Climate Projects in 2026
The Asian Development Bank plans to lend $1.2 billion to India in 2026 to support climate resilience, clean energy, and sustainable infrastructure projects. The funding will address clean energy, transport electrification, green hydrogen, and power distribution reforms, along with technical assistance for policy frameworks. Key programs include the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for rooftop solar installations, benefiting over 2.6 million households, and initiatives to solarise agriculture in Maharashtra.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, promoting rooftop solar installations, has installed over two million systems benefiting 2.6 million households. ADB is also supporting agricultural solarisation in Maharashtra and enhancing decentralized renewable energy systems. ADB aims to mobilize additional capital through innovative financing mechanisms, leveraging sovereign loans and blended finance structures.
