On August 14, 2023, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and AMPIN Energy Transition, in collaboration with Deloitte and Sumitomo Corporation, conducted a significant seminar titled "Renewable Energy Transition for Commercial and Industrial Consumers in the Southern Region" at Hotel Taj MG Road, Bengaluru. This event convened industry leaders, policymakers, and commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers to discuss strategies for achieving 100% renewable energy (RE) adoption in South India.

Shri Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Karnataka Energy Department, highlighted Karnataka's leadership in renewable energy, boasting over 70% of its installed capacity from green sources. He emphasized the C&I sector's vital role in this transition, supported by state policies facilitating open access and innovative solutions.

Further addressing the seminar, Shri Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Company Limited, noted the state's proactive approach with a 10-year resource adequacy plan aimed at doubling renewable capacity by 2030. Significant investments in Battery Energy Storage Systems and infrastructure are underway to ensure grid stability.

The seminar also featured insights from national leaders, including Shri Ghanshyam Prasad from the Central Electricity Authority and Shri Sudeep Jain from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, who underscored the C&I sector's critical contribution to India's clean energy goals, with non-fossil sources now accounting for 50% of power generation.

AMPIN Energy Transition's CEO, Shri Pinaki Bhattacharyya, presented the economic advantages of transitioning to 100% RE and highlighted the potential for C&I consumers to drive this transformation, with AMPIN's 3 GW renewable energy portfolio serving as a catalyst.

The discussions revealed substantial opportunities for C&I consumers to leverage renewables, supported by favorable policies and technological advances. The seminar concluded with a call for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to expedite this transition, aligning with India's broader net-zero ambitions.
