AE Industrial Acquires L3Harris's Space Units, Launches Rocketdyne
AE Industrial Partners has acquired L3Harris Technologies' space propulsion, power, and electronics units for $845 million, establishing Rocketdyne as an independent entity. This acquisition positions Rocketdyne to enhance its capabilities in the growing space sector, with a focus on propulsion, power systems, and nuclear technologies.

AE Industrial Partners has finalized its acquisition of L3Harris Technologies' space propulsion, power, and electronics units for $845 million, resulting in the establishment of Rocketdyne as an independent company. AE Industrial now holds a 60% stake in Rocketdyne, while L3Harris retains a 40% noncontrolling interest and continues as a strategic partner.
The newly formed Rocketdyne will focus on launch-vehicle engines, spacecraft propulsion, space electronics, and nuclear power systems. With a heritage of over 60 years, Rocketdyne aims to meet increasing demands in the space sector driven by geopolitical competition and significant government investment.
The company has delivered approximately 22,000 chemical thrusters and flown more than 500 RL10 engines. AE Industrial’s investment strategy may strengthen Rocketdyne’s market position but raises concerns about potential market competition and the future of integrated propulsion technologies.
