AEGIS, Malahat Energy Systems, and Ontario Tech University Collaborate on Hybrid Nuclear Energy Systems
AEGIS Critical Energy Defence, Malahat Energy Systems, and Ontario Tech University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on hybrid nuclear energy systems. The partnership will focus on integrating Small Modular Reactors and Micro Modular Reactors with advanced battery energy storage systems for mission-critical applications. The initiative aims to enhance the adoption of SMR technology in various sectors while addressing energy security and clean energy demands.

AEGIS Critical Energy Defence Corp., Malahat Energy Systems Inc., and Ontario Tech University have executed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on hybrid nuclear energy systems. The partnership aims to integrate Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Micro Modular Reactors (MMRs) with AEGIS's battery energy storage systems.
This collaboration seeks to address integration challenges and expand SMR applications in sectors requiring reliable, low-carbon power. The MOU outlines a phased approach for design, development, and testing of energy management systems, with a focus on applications in defence and infrastructure. The project emphasizes intellectual property considerations and Indigenous participation in system development.
