AEP Ohio Receives Approval for Rate Increase from Public Utilities Commission
AEP Ohio has received approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for a $126.8 million increase in its basic transmission cost rider, resulting in an average revenue increase of 9.46% effective April 1. The increase addresses a significant under-recovery of costs and includes specific recommendations for various customer classes, with ongoing reviews due to data center growth. Concerns regarding cost allocation and billing methodologies have been raised by organizations like the Ohio Consumers' Counsel.

AEP Ohio's application for a $126,811,177 increase in its basic transmission cost rider has been approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, representing a 9.46% average revenue increase, effective April 1. The increase addresses an under-recovery of $25,745,835 in costs.
The rider passes through non-market-based transmission costs from PJM Interconnection. The Commission has recommended specific rates for various customer classes and will continue reviewing customer allocations due to data center growth.
Interim updates are required by July 15, with additional recommendations regarding billing methodologies and pilot programs. Organizations including the Ohio Consumers' Counsel have expressed concerns about cost allocation and requested changes to the current methodology.
