Aeroporti di Roma Aims for Net Zero Carbon by 2030 with Solar Farm and Circular Economy Initiatives
Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) targets Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030, surpassing European goals. Key strategies include a new 30 GWh Solar Farm at Fiumicino, biobased fuels, and advanced water management. The integration of the Pioneer project enhances energy storage using second-life automotive batteries, optimizing energy use and reducing CO₂ emissions. ADR emphasizes circular economy practices, including food waste recovery initiatives and intelligent waste bins, while also focusing on climate adaptation strategies for infrastructure resilience.

Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) targets Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030, ahead of European goals. The integrated strategy includes a 30 GWh Solar Farm at Fiumicino, set to begin operations in January 2025, and the Pioneer project that utilizes second-life automotive batteries for energy management.
These initiatives aim to reduce CO₂ emissions significantly, with over 14,000 tons annually from the solar farm and an additional 16,000 tons from Pioneer. ADR also promotes circular economy practices, such as food waste recovery with TooGoodToGo and intelligent waste bins for better recycling. Further, ADR is implementing climate adaptation measures for infrastructure resilience.
