AeroVironment has received a contract for the Switchblade 400 loitering munition as part of the Army's Low-Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) program. The award will support the rapid development, delivery, and testing of this medium-range, man-portable anti-armor system, which weighs under 40 pounds and fits common launch tubes.
The Army plans to invest $109.5 million for 95 LASSO systems in FY27, following a previous budget of $67.8 million for 103 systems in FY26. The Switchblade 400 utilizes a Modular Open Systems Approach, enhancing its adaptability and long-term relevance. This selection indicates the Army's confidence in AeroVironment's capabilities, which may significantly influence future loitering munition architectures.
