Diehl Defence Develops Sky Sphere Counter-Drone System with CICADA Effector
Diehl Defence is advancing the Sky Sphere counter-drone system featuring the CICADA effector, with successful tests completed in 2025. The initiative addresses the rising demand for counter-UAS capabilities alongside ongoing requirements for ground-based air defense systems.

Diehl Defence's Sky Sphere counter-UAS system, integrating the CICADA effector, is under development to fulfill increased market demand. The CICADA was showcased at the Enforce Tac exhibition in February 2025 and completed tests at Grafenwoehr in November of the same year.
The company is also working on an enhanced Kinetic Defence Vehicle system to protect against small drones and high-altitude aircraft. Additional projects include the IDAS missile, European HYDEF interceptor, and long-range IRIS-T SLX air defense system.
Talks are ongoing with Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point for potential joint production of Flamingo cruise missiles in Germany. This development reflects a strategic move to enhance capabilities in the counter-drone domain and expand international defense partnerships.
