AFBF Adopts New Policies on Data Centers, Screwworm Control, and Opposes Dairy Buyout
Texas Farm Bureau delegates approved resolutions addressing New World screwworm protections, data center development, and opposition to federally funded dairy buyout programs. The amendment opposing the dairy buyout was introduced amid discussions on USDA's potential program to reduce beef prices.
Delegates emphasized the need for market stability and opposed creating confusion in the cattle market. They also adopted policies for responsible data center development in rural areas and proposed large load tariff rates for energy usage.
Additionally, a subheading on New World screwworm was included, advocating for maintaining U.S.-Mexico border restrictions until the pest is controlled. Delegates supported federal funding for research facilities to combat agricultural threats and voted to maintain the operation of USDA's Beltsville research facility. Other resolutions included repealing excise tax drawbacks affecting wine growers and opposing the merger of Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern railroads.
