AFC Energy Launches 30kW Liquid-Cooled Hydrogen Generator with Significant Cost Reductions
AFC Energy PLC has completed its first 30kW liquid-cooled hydrogen fuel cell generator, the LC30, which significantly reduces manufacturing costs by approximately 85%, is 50% lighter, and occupies 45% less volume than its air-cooled predecessor. The generator operates efficiently across a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C, making it suitable for deployment globally.
The development is part of AFC's strategy to replace diesel generators in off-grid and remote power markets. The LC30 is designed to accommodate a 100kW fuel cell for increased output. The unit is progressing through certification and pre-production phases with manufacturing support from Volex. AFC plans to deploy the generators as part of its hydrogen-as-a-service model, aiming to sell hydrogen on-site for £10/kg, achieving cost parity with diesel without upfront costs for customers.
