AFNWC Marks 20 Years of Nuclear Capability Management
The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) celebrates its 20th anniversary on March 31, highlighting its role in U.S. nuclear deterrence. It integrates and modernizes critical nuclear weapon systems, ensuring operational readiness and effectiveness.

The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) was activated on March 31, 2006, at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. It is responsible for the management of legacy and modern nuclear weapon systems, including the Sentinel ICBM and Long Range Standoff cruise missile.
The center supports the Air Force Materiel Command and Air Force Global Strike Command, ensuring the sustainment and modernization of nuclear capabilities. As of now, AFNWC has 2,300 personnel across 20 global locations.
The center's 20th anniversary aligns with the 250th birthday of the United States, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to national defense. Continued modernization efforts may impact U.S. strategic deterrence and defense posture.
