African Development Bank Approves €68.39 Million for Kenya's Thwake Water Program Completion
The African Development Bank Group has sanctioned €68.39 million to finalize Kenya's Thwake Multipurpose Water Development Program. This funding is crucial for ensuring the project's long-term sustainability and enhancing water security in the region.

On May 22, the African Development Bank Group authorized €68.39 million for Kenya's Thwake Multipurpose Water Development Program Phase I, which is 90% complete. This funding includes a €64.20 million loan and €4.2 million from the African Development Fund, supplemented by €15 million from the Government of Kenya.
The project aims to provide 150,000 cubic meters of clean water daily to 1.3 million people and support irrigation for 40,000 hectares, generating 20 MW of renewable hydropower. Scheduled for completion in September 2028, the project will enhance water security, agricultural productivity, and public health in the region while also creating job opportunities.
