AFYREN Secures €3 Million for Biorefinery Upgrade in Green Transition Efforts
AFYREN has obtained a €3 million grant from the Grand Est Region to enhance its AFYREN NEOXY biorefinery, focusing on biobased carboxylic acids. This funding, part of the EU's Just Transition Fund, aims to bolster economic resilience and sustainability in the industry.

AFYREN will utilize a €3 million grant from the Grand Est Region to improve its AFYREN NEOXY biorefinery, which has a production capacity exceeding 16 kt/year of organic acids through a low-carbon model. The grant is sourced from the EU's Just Transition Fund and is expected to create jobs, enhance sustainable skills, and drive value within the biorefinery.
Additionally, AFYREN received a €2.2 million installment from Bpifrance's France Relance grant in March for strategic investments. The EU's funding landscape also includes support for projects like VITO's UNICO2RN, aimed at utilizing biogenic CO2, and PureCycle Technologies' €40 million grant for a recycling facility in Antwerp. These initiatives align with broader EU decarbonization and circular economy goals.
