Agri-Mark Fined $60,000 for Wastewater Permit Violations at Vermont Cheese Plant

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

Agri-Mark, the operator of Vermont's largest cheese plant in Middlebury, has been fined $60,000 for repeatedly violating its wastewater permit since 2022. The violations included 15 instances of excessive waste discharge to the local wastewater treatment plant, which impacted its operations.

The company has improved its compliance and communication with the town and agreed to hire a consultant to address the issues, develop a compliance plan, and increase staffing. The plant has added new equipment in 2024 and has been compliant since then. Agri-Mark previously faced fines for environmental violations.
