WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATIONSTRATEGIC MINERALS
The Aguas Esperanza consortium has initiated a $1.5 billion project to enhance water infrastructure for the Centinela copper mining district in Antofagasta, Chile. This initiative will utilize seawater, allowing the extraction of an additional 144,000 tonnes of copper annually without desalination.
Macquarie Capital served as the financial adviser, facilitating a $1.49 billion financing package. The project, which includes a 144-kilometre pipeline, aims to double Centinela's copper production capacity over five years while minimizing environmental impacts. It has received multiple industry awards for its innovative approach.
