AI Development Increases Gas Power Plants and Pollution in the US
The U.S. is witnessing a rise in greenhouse gas emissions due to increased gas-burning power plants linked to AI development. In contrast, significant investments are being made in renewable energy projects globally, including the SA-H2 Fund in Southern Africa and Deutsche Bank's commitment to battery storage in Australia.

The recent push for AI data centers in the U.S. has led to a resurgence in gas-burning power plants, with 82 planned facilities, primarily in Texas. This increase poses a risk to air quality, potentially generating emissions comparable to half of the country's passenger vehicles, as reported by the Environmental Integrity Project.
Conversely, the SA-H2 Fund has successfully secured 3 billion ZAR (approximately $184 million) for green hydrogen projects in Southern Africa, aiming for 12 billion ZAR by 2028. Additionally, Deutsche Bank has committed 85 million AUD (nearly $60 million) to enhance battery storage in Queensland, Australia, indicating a strong focus on energy transition and stability amidst concerns over fossil fuel reliance.
