Megaport has secured four contracts valued at approximately A$459 million, marking its shift from cloud connectivity to becoming a significant player in AI infrastructure. The company is planning a capital raise of A$827.3 million to fund the development of a distributed AI inference cloud.
This strategic move aims to bring AI processing closer to customer operations, leveraging its existing network of over 1,100 data centers across 31 countries. The capital raise is fully underwritten at A$14.30 per share, with a focus on acquiring hardware and expanding network capacity.
The acquisition of Latitude.sh and the purchase of Extreme IX enhance Megaport's infrastructure capabilities. Successful execution will require careful management of utilization and capacity to ensure profitability.
