Air Mobility Executes First Passenger eVTOL Flight Trials in Mexico
Air Mobility has conducted Mexico's inaugural passenger flights using an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the EH216-S. These flights, part of the certification process, are crucial for advancing autonomous passenger services in the region, with potential commercial operations expected to begin in 2026.
Air Mobility completed Mexico's first passenger eVTOL flights using the EH216-S aircraft at Military Air Base No. 20, adjacent to Tulum International Airport, from April 27 to April 29. The testing included route validation with a smaller drone and subsequent flights with the EH216-S, focusing on operational safety and performance metrics.
On the final day, four passenger flights were executed alongside additional hovering operations, with positive feedback from Mexican Air Force personnel about noise and flight smoothness. Following these tests, the company will submit a report to Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency to facilitate certification.
Concurrently, regulatory bodies are collaborating with China’s Civil Aviation Administration to validate the aircraft's type certificate. Air Mobility aims to begin limited commercial operations in 2026, emphasizing the need for continued demonstration flights to gather operational data.
