Airbus in Bremen Supplies 50% of NASA's Orion Module for Artemis II Moon Mission
The Artemis II mission, set to launch in March after a February delay, is the first crewed lunar mission since 1972. Airbus Defence and Space in Bremen is responsible for 50% of the Orion spacecraft, specifically the European Service Module (ESM), which provides essential life support for astronauts. Lockheed Martin produces the crew capsule. The ESM is the first critical component for a NASA mission developed outside the U.S.

The Artemis II mission, aimed for a March launch, marks the first crewed lunar flight since 1972. Airbus Defence and Space in Bremen builds 50% of the Orion spacecraft, focusing on the European Service Module (ESM) that supplies life support systems.
Lockheed Martin contributes the crew capsule. Christoph Sonnenberg highlights the essential role of Bremen's space technology in enabling NASA to send astronauts to the Moon and back. The ESM is the first critical component developed by NASA outside the U.S. for astronaut missions. OHB, through its subsidiary MT Aerospace, is involved with the Space Launch System (SLS) but has no direct role in Artemis II.
