Airbus Partners with Fairmat for Carbon Fiber Recovery from A350 Airframes
Airbus and Fairmat have initiated a collaboration to recover carbon fibers from decommissioned A350 aircraft. This move supports the aerospace industry's shift towards circularity, aiming to enhance material reuse while maintaining performance standards.

Airbus and Fairmat signed a contract in late 2025 to explore carbon fiber recovery from A350 airframes. The project focuses on disassembly methods that preserve the material's properties for reuse in aerospace applications, as the A350 comprises 53% carbon composites.
Fairmat's Infinity Recycling technology employs a cold plasma process to maintain fiber integrity without high energy use or harsh chemicals. Currently, aerospace constitutes 50% of the composites processed by Fairmat, though applications have primarily been in sports and automotive industries. This collaboration could significantly influence recycling practices in aerospace, reducing waste and advancing sustainable material usage.
