Airtel Kenya Launches Xstream Fiber, Enters Home Broadband Market
Airtel Kenya has introduced its Xstream Fiber service, marking its entry into the home broadband sector with four pricing tiers starting at KES 1,999. This initiative aims to capture a share of the growing fixed internet market, which has seen fiber subscriptions reach 1,378,198, amidst increasing competition from established players.

Airtel Kenya's Xstream Fiber service offers both FTTH and FTTB connections, with routers provided at no upfront cost and installation triggered by the first monthly payment. The company has partnered with Huawei and ZTE for router supply, leveraging their established presence in Kenya's telecom infrastructure.
Airtel's entry is strategically timed following the September 2025 announcement of a $150 million data center project. The company aims to integrate broadband with its existing mobile services as households shift from mobile data to fixed connections. The competitive landscape includes Safaricom, Zuku, and Jamii Telecommunications Limited, raising questions about Airtel's ability to establish trust and overcome existing market barriers.
