Airtel Surpasses 650 Million Subscribers, Enhances Nigeria Expansion Efforts
Bharti Airtel has reached 650 million global mobile subscribers, ranking it as the second-largest telecom operator worldwide. This growth is significant for the company’s strategy in Nigeria, where infrastructure enhancements are crucial amidst rising demand for digital services.

Bharti Airtel has achieved over 650 million mobile subscribers globally, establishing itself as the second-largest telecom operator by customer base. This milestone underscores the company's extensive international presence, particularly its operations in Nigeria, where it has expanded its infrastructure from over 13,000 to nearly 17,200 sites in three years.
Airtel's network expansion is vital due to increasing demand for mobile data and digital services, especially as the Nigerian Communications Commission mandates improved service quality. Additionally, Airtel is investing in a second submarine cable breakout point in Akwa Ibom State, enhancing network resilience.
The company's recent $1 billion investment in its data center unit, Nxtra, is poised to strengthen its digital infrastructure capabilities, supporting enterprise connectivity and cloud services. This growth trajectory aligns with Nigeria's digital transformation goals and positions Airtel competitively against MTN Nigeria in both subscriber growth and service diversification.
