AirTrunk has energized a rooftop solar array at its SYD1 data center in Western Sydney, Australia, adding to its renewable initiatives. The SYD1 facility, with a capacity of 130MW, encompasses over seven hectares and includes 42 data halls across five buildings.
The solar array marks AirTrunk's second installation at a data center after the earlier completion of a 1MW array in Johor, Malaysia. The company, founded in 2018 and acquired by Blackstone and CPPIB for $16.1 billion in 2024, operates data center campuses in various locations including Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. The integration of solar power is a strategic move towards enhancing sustainability and reducing emissions.
