Akashlabdhi Advances Inflatable Space Habitat Launch with ESA in Switzerland

SPACE ECONOMY

Bengaluru-based startup Akashlabdhi completed key tests in Switzerland for its inflatable space habitat, 'AntarikshHAB', in collaboration with the European Space Agency. A scaled-down version is set to launch in July aboard a vehicle from PLD Space.

The habitat will initially measure 70 cubic meters, with a final design of 300 cubic meters. The mission includes a controlled de-orbit and atmospheric re-entry, focusing on material degradation and survivability.

The project involves partnerships with various European organizations, supported by ESA grants, and aims to establish a Human Habitat Safety and R&D facility in Switzerland. Indian institutions like IISc, IIT-Roorkee, and IIT-Delhi are contributing expertise, while the Amberg Group provides underground safety engineering experience.
