Akuo to Build 80 MW Battery Energy Storage System in Portugal's Santas Project
Akuo will begin construction of SantasBAT, an 80 MW battery energy storage system in Borba, Portugal, integrated with the Santas PV plant. Scheduled for completion in 2Q27, the project has received nearly €15 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan under the NextGenerationEU framework. The system will enhance the sustainability of Portugal's electricity grid by storing clean energy for peak demand.

Akuo is set to commence construction of the SantasBAT battery energy storage system (BESS) in Borba, Portugal, with a capacity of 80 MW and 220 MWh. This project is integrated with the Santas photovoltaic plant, which has been operational since September 2024 and has 181 MW of installed capacity.
SantasBAT is scheduled for completion in 2Q27 and has secured nearly €15 million in funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan under the NextGenerationEU framework. The system will store clean electricity for use during high demand periods, supporting Portugal's energy transition.
