Alaska DOT&PF Adopts Armada Edge Computing for Real-Time Drone Data Analysis

Alaska's Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF) has implemented Armada's Edge computing solution for its drone program, reducing decision-making time from over 28 hours to real-time. The program addresses latency issues in a region lacking significant data center capacity by utilizing drone imagery.

Previously, data was uploaded to the cloud after a physical drive to the nearest city, delaying usability. The department now operates two Galleon containerized Edge data centers, one in Anchorage and a modular unit in Fairbanks, enabling live drone feed ingestion and analysis at the source.

This technology was notably employed during Typhoon Halong. Additionally, Armada, which raised $131 million earlier this year, has expanded its Edge deployments with various partners for sectors including hydrogen energy and offshore oil rigs.
