Albania and Montenegro Secure Loans for Hydropower Plant Rehabilitation and Transmission Line Upgrade
The Albanian Parliament approved a €40 million loan agreement with KfW for the rehabilitation of the Fierza hydropower plant, aiming to enhance energy production efficiency and extend its lifespan by 30 years. Concurrently, Montenegro's CGES secured a €15 million loan from EBRD to upgrade a 220 kV power line, increasing its capacity to 600 MW, which will improve electricity transmission reliability in the region.

The Albanian Parliament ratified a €40 million loan agreement with KfW for the rehabilitation of the Fierza hydropower plant, enhancing its safety and efficiency. The project, managed by KESH, aims to extend the plant's lifespan by at least 30 years and increase output by 10%.
Completion is expected by July 2030. Separately, Montenegro's CGES secured a €15 million loan from EBRD to upgrade a 220 kV power line, increasing its capacity from 300 MW to 600 MW for improved regional electricity transmission. CGES plans to invest €200 million over five years.
