Albania Glass Recycling Project Converts Waste into Pool Filter Media and Terrazzo
The 'Albania Glass Recycling' project, backed by the EU through EU4Circular Economy, recycles 40 tonnes of glass waste into pool filter media and terrazzo in Fushë-Krujë. A new machine processes up to 300 kilograms of glass per hour, producing a medium that captures particles as small as 5 microns.
This initiative marks the first local production of pool filter media, previously imported. The project includes distributing special containers for glass waste collection from industrial companies, facilitating the recycling process. The EU project is cofinanced by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and aims to transition Albania toward a circular economy, enhancing waste management and creating sustainable urban solutions.
