Alberta has committed $91 million to support industrial innovation projects aimed at reducing emissions and bolstering economic stability. This funding will facilitate nine projects in sectors including electricity generation and manufacturing, with a total potential emissions reduction of one million tonnes by 2030.
Key initiatives include a smart grid in Airdrie and a hydroelectric project near the Brazeau Dam. The funding also seeks to enhance job creation and supply chain resilience, alongside further applications for an additional $50 million in the 2026-2027 cycle. Since 2022, over $175 million has been allocated through the Industrial Transformation Challenge, balancing emission targets with industrial growth.
