Algeria Launches 15GW Renewable Energy Plan to Boost Green Hydrogen Investments
Algeria has launched a renewable energy plan aimed at producing 15 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, with a focus on attracting investment in green hydrogen. The initiative, which includes solar, wind, and water power, is designed to meet domestic electricity needs and facilitate exports, with an initial phase targeting the generation of 1,100 megawatts (MW) starting in June. Energy Minister Mourad Adjal emphasized the plan's role in diversifying energy sources and promoting sustainable development.

Algeria has initiated a renewable energy plan to produce 15 gigawatts (GW) of electricity and attract investment in green hydrogen. The plan encompasses solar, wind, and water power to meet domestic electricity demand and allow for exports.
Energy Minister Mourad Adjal announced the project during a visit to renewable energy sites in Tipaza province, where solar and wind stations are under construction. Phase one aims to generate approximately 1,100 megawatts (MW) starting in June, contributing to a broader 3,200 MW renewable initiative. The strategy seeks to diversify energy sources and support sustainable development while focusing on green hydrogen as a key component for local energy production and environmental protection.
