Algeria Launches Lithium Battery Recycling Company in Blida
Algeria is advancing its lithium sector to reduce dependency on hydrocarbons, aiming to establish a complete lithium supply chain. The initiative anticipates the creation of 50,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs, capitalizing on a projected sixfold increase in global lithium demand by 2030.

Algeria is establishing a lithium battery recycling sector in Blida as part of its strategy to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on hydrocarbons. The country aims to create a comprehensive lithium supply chain, including extraction, processing, and battery production, with potential job creation of 150,000.
An engineer, Mustapha Oucif, who has returned from France, plans to invest in the collection and recycling of lithium-containing batteries, having secured partnerships for technology transfer to enhance recovery rates. The recycling process is complex and costly, necessitating specialized facilities and skilled labor. This initiative could position Algeria as a significant player in the global lithium market while addressing environmental concerns.
