DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Alibaba Cloud has accelerated its plans for a new data center in Shanghai, signing an agreement with the Jinshan District People's Government. This facility will feature Alibaba's custom Zhenwu AI chips and is part of the 'Aspara Cloud Intelligent East China Computing Center,' aimed to become one of the largest intelligent computing hubs in East China.

The Zhenwu 810E chip, with 96GB of HBM2e memory and designed for AI workloads, will power the center. The initiative follows a 2021 investment of 40 billion yuan ($5.8bn) for the computing center. Alibaba Cloud aims to establish a green computing benchmark and assist Jinshan District in its digital transformation, while currently operating over 94 availability zones in 29 regions.
