Alle-Catt Wind Energy Receives Approval for Construction Amid Noise Concerns
The New York State Department of Public Service has greenlit Alle-Catt Wind Energy’s $618 million wind farm project across three counties, aiming to generate 340 megawatts. Despite opposition regarding noise levels, the project will proceed with construction of 83 turbines by year-end 2026.

Alle-Catt Wind Energy has been authorized by the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) to commence construction of a wind farm projected to yield 340 megawatts of power. The project encompasses 30,000 acres across Cattaraugus, Allegany, and Wyoming counties with 83 wind turbines expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
Concerns raised by the Coalition of Concerned Citizens about potential noise impacts have not halted progress, as the DPS did not entertain requests for pre-construction noise modeling. The project aims for a nighttime noise limit of 40 dBA, despite projections indicating that noise could exceed this threshold at many sites. Alle-Catt has committed to adhering to noise limits during construction and operations but is seeking an amendment to update outdated noise modeling requirements in its permit.
