Allen Park Planning Commission Delays Approval of Solstice Data Center Amid Public Concerns

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Allen Park Planning Commission postponed approval of a proposed data center at 7500 Enterprise Dr. due to public concerns regarding noise, environmental impact, and energy infrastructure. An additional noise study and evaluations by the fire department will be conducted.

The facility, developed by Solstice Data, is designed to operate on grid power, use a closed-loop cooling system, and produce no emissions, with 12 backup generators for emergency power. The project is expected to generate $6.2 million to $7.4 million in annual property tax revenue and create 25 permanent jobs.

Residents raised concerns about potential increases in electric bills, water supply issues, and the impact of noise pollution on local neighborhoods. Although the facility is only 40,000 square feet and represents a smaller footprint compared to other projects, skepticism remains regarding the assurances provided by DTE about energy costs.
