Altilium Files 10th Patent for Low Carbon Nickel MHP Production
Altilium has filed its 10th UK patent application focusing on the sustainable production of nickel MHP from recycled materials. This development is crucial for enhancing the UK’s domestic battery material supply chain and reducing reliance on imports.

Altilium's latest patent application enhances its intellectual property, relating to the production of nickel MHP derived from recycled feedstocks. The ACT2 pilot plant is already producing nickel MHP for customer qualification, underscoring the project’s commercial viability.
The upcoming ACT3 facility in Plymouth will have a production capacity of approximately 3,200 tonnes of nickel MHP annually. Establishing a local supply of battery materials is critical for the UK’s energy security, especially as Indonesia currently dominates the MHP market.
With its EcoCathode™ process, Altilium aims to convert end-of-life batteries into valuable materials, further promoting a circular battery ecosystem. Additionally, the planned Teesside plant will process materials from over 150,000 EVs annually, addressing around 20% of the UK’s projected CAM needs by 2030.
