Altona Rare Earths Plc has received a US$1.9 million grant from USTDA for the metallurgy and process engineering of its Monte Muambe rare earths prefeasibility study. The project, comprising 13.6 million tons at 2.42% Total Rare Earths Oxide, is part of a multi-commodity initiative that also includes fluorspar and gallium.
Altona has drilled over 7,800 meters since acquiring Monte Muambe in June 2021 and published a Competent Person Report in October 2023. The company is fast-tracking plans for acid-grade fluorspar production with targeted output of 50,000 tonnes per annum.
Additionally, gallium mineralisation has been identified, with recovery plans from fluorspar tailings. Altona's portfolio includes the Sesana Copper-Silver Project in Botswana, enhancing its strategic growth trajectory. Continued evaluation of additional projects aims to drive long-term growth in critical raw materials for clean energy and technology.
