Alzey Cultural Center Modernizes Energy Supply with Geothermal, CHP, and PV Systems
The Alzey Cultural Center in Germany has modernized its energy supply, replacing a 34-year-old natural gas heating system with a combination of geothermal energy, a cogeneration plant (CHP), photovoltaics, and storage. Implemented by EnergieDienstleistungsGesellschaft Rheinhessen-Nahe (EDG), the project aims for self-sufficiency, with the CHP providing 65% of the annual heat demand of 135,000 kWh.
Construction began in May 2025, and the facility became operational in the 2025/2026 heating season. The system is expected to generate approximately 95% of its electricity on-site, achieving annual CO2 savings of around 53 tons. The project was funded through a contracting model with support from local government subsidies.
