Amazon Acquires 1.2 GW Sunstone Solar Project in Oregon from Pine Gate Renewables
Amazon Energy has acquired the 1.2 GW Sunstone solar-plus-storage project in Oregon from Pine Gate Renewables for $83 million, following the latter's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The project, which features 7,200 MWh of storage capacity and is set to begin construction in 2026, will enhance Amazon's control over its data center energy generation. Proceeds from the sale will be allocated to Pine Gate's secured creditors.

The US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas has approved Amazon Energy's acquisition of the 1.2 GW Sunstone solar-plus-storage project in Morrow County, Oregon, from Pine Gate Renewables, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2025. Amazon's winning bid was $83 million, surpassing Puget Sound Energy's $82 million offer.
The acquisition allows Amazon to control the generation schedule for its data center operations. The Sunstone project, shovel-ready with 7,200 MWh of storage capacity, will begin construction in 2026, managed by Gallatin Power Partners. The proceeds from the sale will be used to pay Pine Gate's secured creditors.
