Amazon Acquires Fauna Robotics to Enter Humanoid Robotics Market
Amazon has acquired New York-based Fauna Robotics, known for its humanoid robot Sprout priced at $50,000. The acquisition expands Amazon's reach beyond logistics into consumer robotics, leveraging its extensive experience in automation. Fauna's team will join Amazon in New York, focusing on developing robots designed for safe interaction in everyday environments. This move aligns with Amazon's strategy to diversify its robotic applications and compete with other companies in the humanoid space, including Tesla and Figure AI.

Amazon has confirmed its acquisition of Fauna Robotics, a New York startup specializing in consumer-focused humanoid robots. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fauna Robotics, founded in 2024 by ex-Meta and Google engineers, launched its humanoid robot, Sprout, earlier this year, priced at $50,000.
Sprout is designed for safe interaction in social settings and features 29 degrees of freedom with Nvidia hardware. The acquisition expands Amazon's existing robotic capabilities, which primarily focus on warehouse automation.
Fauna's team of approximately 50 employees will integrate into Amazon's New York offices. This acquisition is part of Amazon's broader strategy to enhance its robotics expertise, with prior acquisitions including Kiva Systems for warehouse automation and Rivr for home delivery robots. Amazon aims to leverage its experience in retail and devices to improve customer experiences through personal robots.
