Amazon Invests $13 Billion in Mississippi Data Centers, Enhances Entergy Grid Reliability

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Amazon is investing $13 billion to develop multi-campus data centers in Mississippi, funding its own grid connections and improvements for Entergy customers. This investment allows Entergy Mississippi to replace aging power plants ahead of schedule, saving customers an estimated $1.3 million in replacement costs and $700 million in future fuel expenses.

Revenue from Amazon and other large industrial customers is contributing nearly $1 billion to a grid modernization project, which includes upgrades to improve reliability and reduce outages. Entergy credits Amazon's presence for generating $300 million of the funding that will not be charged to other customers. The utility's strategy of aligning infrastructure investments with industrial growth aims to enhance grid reliability and lower costs, providing a model for other utilities.
