AmCham Advocates Unified Energy Strategy for Bangladesh Amid Rising Demand
AmCham urges a comprehensive energy strategy to tackle projected demand increases of up to 300% in 20 years. Key industry leaders emphasize a coordinated approach to enhance energy security and reduce reliance on high-cost LNG.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has called for a comprehensive energy strategy to address an anticipated doubling or tripling of energy demand over the next 15 to 20 years. During a recent meeting, industry experts discussed the need for stakeholder-driven recommendations, emphasizing the importance of government support for exploration and a diversified energy mix including LNG and solar power.
Concerns over the economic impact of reliance on high-priced spot LNG were raised, with calls for demand-side management and increased domestic energy production. Experts suggest that Bangladesh could potentially add 3,000 MW of solar capacity by 2030.
However, significant policy barriers remain, notably disparities in duties on solar equipment that hinder growth. Timely reforms and collaboration between government and industry are essential for ensuring long-term energy security.
