Ameren Illinois Initiates Electric Infrastructure Upgrades in Multiple Counties
Ameren Illinois is upgrading electric infrastructure in Warren, Knox, and Mercer counties to enhance reliability and capacity. The project includes converting the Monmouth Substation to a 12-kilovolt system and installing additional transformers and smart devices.

Ameren Illinois is implementing electric infrastructure upgrades in Warren, Knox, and Mercer counties, with completion anticipated by early September. Key upgrades include converting the Monmouth Substation from a 4-kilovolt to a 12-kilovolt system, adding two 22 megavolt-ampere transformers, and installing five smart switching devices.
Additional improvements are planned for transformer capacity in Arpee, Seaton, and Viola, as well as smart switches in Aledo and enhancements to the underground network in Galesburg. These upgrades aim to reduce outages and improve system performance, positioning the grid to meet future electricity demands.
